Unusual
Petroglyphs - Seats?
The photographs
on these pages are of rock carvings found on a site on the Maderas
side of Ometepe Island, Nicaragua. The site is located on a small
rise that abuts the shore of Lake Nicaragua. There is level farmland
all around.
Many
of the forms seem almost like steps, or even "seats."
One of these is shown below.

Beside
the step forms shown in the lower center, there are normal (for
this region) "meandering line" petroglyphs in an area
indicated by the yellow box below. There is
also a second form, an extended oval, indicated by the area inside
the orange box.
This
Oval is represented in other places within the site. The next example
shows a better representation of this form.
